Madonna Plans Trip To "Chicago"

June 3 [7:55 EDT] -- Madonna has signed on for her next film role, which will see her head to "Chicago" via Broadway.

The singer has officially signed to co-star with Goldie Hawn in the movie version of the stage musical "Chicago," the current Broadway version of which won five Tony awards on Sunday night.

Among the fistful of Tony awards the play picked up was a nod for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, which went to former "Cheers" actress Bebe Neuwirth for her portrayal of tough-cookie Velma Kelly in the show.

Madonna is said to be "Over the moon. Very, very excited" about nabbing that meaty role in the big screen version of the musical.

The performer's publicists say Madonna is also working on a new album, and commuting between Miami, Los Angeles, and New York to work on the project.
