Madonna Video “Drowned” In Controversy

Madonna’s new video for “Drowned World (Substitute for Love)” hasn’t even been released yet, but it’s already stirring up controversy in Britain.

U.K. tabloids have already heaped criticism on the new clip, Madonna’s third for her “Ray of Light” album, which depicts the singer being chased by paparazzi in a manner some find reminiscent of the final pursuit of Princess Diana, who died in a car crash last August.

A press representative for Madonna told MTV News that the video for “Drowned World,” has nothing to do with the late Princess’ travails with rabid photographers and was instead about “Madonna’s relationship to fame.”

The video for “Drowned World (Substitute for Love)” will be released in August.
