Madonna Considers Signing Up For Sanskrit Lessons

Madonna, who upset some sects with her usage of Hindi symbols and chants on her most recent album, "Ray of Light," is now apparently planning to head to India in order to study Sanskrit with a popular guru there.

According to "The Times of India," the singer has already agreed to travel to Varansi, India to take lessons in the ancient Indic language under the tutelage of Dr. Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi -- better known as the guru Vagish Shastri -- although the exact time frame for her trip is being kept under wraps.

Madonna is said to be motivated to take the precursory lessons in Sanskrit after some scholars noted how she had mispronounced certain Sanskrit words in her recitation of several lines from an Indian hymn, the Yoga Taravali, on "Ray of Light."

A spokesperson for Madonna could not be reached for comment, but we'll keep you posted.
