UPDATE: Madonna Promises "Funkier, Edgier" New Album, Talks Club Dates

Showing that motherhood hasn't mellowed her much, Madonna is promising a "funkier, edgier" incarnation when her new album arrives next month.

The chameleon-like pop queen rang up the set of MTV's "Total Request Live" to unveil the video for the title track to her upcoming album, "Music," on Wednesday and also revealed what awaits on the album.

[article id="1447459"]"I think it's even more electronic than my last record, but it's edgier and a bit funkier,"[/article] Madonna told MTV. Madonna paired with French producer Mirwais for the album's first single, and the fruits of that partnership very much bear his stamp. [article id="1447459"]"He's really influenced by '70s funk and R&B," she explained. [RealVideo][/article]

Calling from Los Angeles, Madonna also noted that the "Music" clip, directed by Jonas Akerlund, drew its inspiration from "blaxploitation films of the early '70s, the really funny ones." As we previously

reported, the video finds Madonna (sporting an all-white ensemble, topped with a white cowboy hat and accented with gold jewelry) kicking it with actress Debi Mazar, backup singer Nikki Harris, and British comic Ali G (see [article id="1431552"]"New Madonna Video Previewed Online"[/article]).

Four separate remixes of "Music" are currently being previewed at mtv.com, vh1.com, sonicnet.com, and Madonna's new site, madonnamusic.com.

Music" the album is scheduled to hit stores on September 19, and Madonna told music industry Web site Hits Daily Double (at hitsdailydouble.com) that she hopes to play a few club dates shortly thereafter.

About a month after the album comes out, I'm going to do a couple of club dates and perform in places like the Roxy in New York," Madonna told Hits. "Then I'll go to England and do a couple of club dates there and go around Europe and just do small shows. We'll

see how the record does and judge what the response is. Then I'll start thinking about doing a proper tour -- you know, now that I've done my procreating thing.
