Milwaukee Metalfest Shifts Locales After Losing Court Battle

Fear not, metal lovers: the Milwaukee Metalfest lives on.

Despite losing a recent court case that barred the event from being held at the Wisconsin State Fair Park, organizers have already secured an alternate site for the thirteenth edition of the Milwaukee Metalfest, which will now be held at the Milwaukee Auditorium on July 30 and 31.

Plans for the two-day concert, which will feature such aggressively rhythmic bands as Misfits, Neurosis, and T.S.O.L., were left up in the air after park representatives allegedly reneged on an oral agreement with the event's promoters because of the names of some of the bands scheduled to appear (see "Milwaukee Metalfest to Feature Manowar, Machine Head, Misfits, More").

Metalfest reps then filed suit against the State of Wisconsin for the right to hold the concert on public grounds, but a circuit court sided with the State, citing sovereign immunity -- a legal

doctrine that maintains that a state cannot be sued unless it consents to be sued.

"We're certainly disappointed with the court's decision," said Milwaukee Metalfest organizer Jack Koshick in a statement. "But Metalfest is the show that wouldn't die. We are very pleased that we were able to secure the Milwaukee Auditorium for the event on such a short notice."
