Jan. 15 [8:00 EST] -- The new Luscious Jackson album, "Fever In, Fever Out," not only boasts the track "Naked Eye" (which has a video that can now be seen on MTV), it also has one surprising name on backup vocals: longtime country-rock star Emmylou Harris. Harris joins N'Dea Davenport of the Brand New Heavies on a few tracks.
The connection is Daniel Lanois who has worked with U2 and Peter Gabriel, and who produced the Jackson album as well as last year's critically acclaimed Harris album, "Wrecking Ball." "(Emmylou Harris) was playing in New York, and (Lanois) was playing guitar for her," Jackson drummer Kate Schellenbach told MTV News.
"He invited her up to my house after the show where we were recording, and he was like Emmy's gonna come by... Maybe she'll play guitar, sing some vocals and we're like... Great! And also I guess N'Dea's friend... N'Dea's husband plays drums for Emmylou Harris, Grady Blade. We've met her before, and she has expressed interest in working
with us, singing with us, and we were really into it, so it worked out."
Luscious Jackson ended up recording its new album at Daniel Lanois' house in New Orleans. The group's singer, Jill Cuniff, says she plans to record with Emmylou Harris again later this year.
Meanwhile, the band will launch a tour with the Eels on February 9 in Seattle.
