And they said it wouldn't last...
Former New Kid On The Block Joey McIntyre got a lesson in the enduring nature of infatuation recently while on the road promoting his upcoming solo album.
McIntyre hooked up with Milwaukee's WXSS radio station on Tuesday to chat up his upcoming self-titled effort, and to greet fans at an event staged by the station. McIntyre and station personnel set up shop at Champs Americana restaurant for the broadcast and autograph session, and opened its doors to McIntyre's fans.
While the station anticipated a good crowd, they wound up being overrun by between 1,500 and 1,800 fans, some of whom knocked the restaurant's front door off of its hinges.
McIntyre greeted fans (mainly females ranging in age from 15 to 35) and signed autographs for two and a half hours before calling it a night with some 300 fans still awaiting entry to the restaurant. In an attempt to slip him past a mob of fans still gathered in the parking lot
after the appearance was over, WXSS staffers dressed McIntyre in policeman's garb and whisked him into a nearby car.
While much of the enthusiasm no doubt stems from his days as a New Kid, McIntyre's newest musical endeavor isn't doing that poorly. The first single from his solo debut, "Stay The Same," is doing well at Top 40 radio, and has climbed to the top of WXSS' nightly "8 At 8" countdown of listener requests.
Meanwhile, those fans who prefer to hold onto their memories of little Joe McIntyre and his New Kid colleagues will be pleased to know that a greatest hits package from those kings of the boy bands will hit stores on February 16. Here's what you'll find on "New Kids On The Block Greatest Hits":
