Metallica, Korn, Kid Rock, PM5K, System To Tour

They aren't playing just speedways and they aren't doing it all summer, but Metallica, Korn, Kid Rock, Powerman 5000, and System Of A Down are in fact teaming up for a summer tour.

Metallica made the weeks worth of rumors official on Tuesday on an official Web site devoted to the band's tour (at Spokespeople for the band's record label, Elektra Records, confirm that the band will join its fellow heavy music faves for twelve dates beginning on June 30 in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

The tour will then hit stadiums, arenas, and yes, even speedways across the South and West before heading back East to wrap things up on July 20 at Giants Stadium. Details for three of the tour's dates, including one in North Carolina, have yet to be hammered out.

"It's pretty insane," System Of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian said of the tour. For System, the tour means tearing itself away from the studio and halting work on its upcoming sophomore album. "We thought

about it for a couple of minutes, and we thought it might slow us down, but it's a huge, great, amazing tour. It was an offer we couldn't refuse," Odadjian explained. "I've always said that it doesn't matter what else we're doing, touring is the most important thing to us."

The tour is lot more high profile than the plans Metallica originally had for the year 2000. After a non-stop agenda of recording and touring, Metallica had planned to take a lengthy vacation after completing a string of January tour dates. However, the band has shelved rest on favor of recording a new song, "I Disappear," for the "Mission: Impossible 2" soundtrack, shooting a video for it (which will debut on MTV's "Making The Video" on May 8), and now mapping out a summer tour.
