When "Josie and the Pussycats" finally make it to the big screen, Parker Posey will reportedly be making their lives miserable.According to "The Hollywood Reporter," the live action adaptation of the classic cartoon series (in which a girl rock group finds adventure on the road... and eventually in space) will see indie film queen Posey ("Waiting for Guffman," "The Doom Generation," "Henry Fool") assume the role of a record label big wig who uses the band to brainwash fans through subliminal messages. As we previously reported, "She's All That" star Rachael Leigh Cook has landed the legendary (at least among cartoon buffs) role of Josie McCoy, and Babyface may be supplying the music for the group (see "Babyface May Join 'Josie And The Pussycats"). Now, the "Reporter" notes that Tara Reid ("American Pie," "The Big Lebowski") is in talks to play Pussycats drummer Melody Valentine, and Alan Cumming (who ironically was
also cast in the Spice Girls' "Spice World") is being discussed for the role of a talent scout at Posey's record label.Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, the team that directed "Can't Hardly Wait," will write and direct the film, which is reportedly planning to begin shooting this summer. Before hitting small screens across America as a an animated television series in 1970, "Josie and the Pussycats" debuted in a line of comic books from the folks at Archie Comics (who have also churned out "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Archie and Friends"). The animated version found the all girl rock trio stumbling into hijinks while on the road with friends Alan, Alexander and his sister Alexandra. In 1972, the same characters then turned up in "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space."
