Winona Ryder Takes Over Reigns Of Blues Explosion For New Video

New York's premiere blues-punk noisemakers, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, will return to record racks next week with a new album, "Acme," but you won't see the band doing their thing on MTV any time soon.

Instead, you'll see Winona Ryder as frontman Jon Spencer, "Saving Private Ryan's" Giovanni Ribisi as guitarist Judah Bauer, and "Boogie Nights'" John C. Reilly as drummer Russell Simins in the band's new video, "Talk About The Blues." The clip turns around the old soundtrack video formula as the actors belt out the song while the real band stomps through scenes apparently lifted from a crime thriller.

Winona and company seem to have done their homework for the clip as they have the band's flailing performance style down pat. However, frontman Jon Spencer thinks that fans will be more impressed by the acting job he and his bandmates deliver in the clip.

"It's not so much that, you

know, we've

got Giovanni Ribisi. It's not so much that we got John C. Reilly. It's not so much that we got Winona Ryder helping us out and playing the parts of the Blues Explosion," Spencer told MTV Online before taking the stage at New York's Bowery Ballroom for a recent show. "I think that people are really going to be surprised when they see this, the acting on the part of the Blues Explosion. When people get a load of some of the heavy dramatic, really very intense scenes that we pulled out from our souls, I think people are really going to be blown away." [28.8 RealVideo]
