According to Britain’s PA News and other sources, a live gala called “Red Hot and Blue,” featuring appearances by The Pet Shop Boys along with Elton John, Shola Ama, Robbie Williams and Marianne Faithful will be staged at the Park Lane Hotel later this week.
The performances will be recorded and included on an album called “20th Century Blues – The Songs Of Noel Coward,” scheduled for an April release on EMI. The project celebrates the late songwriter/humorist/playright’s would-be 100th birthday, and the proceeds will go to the Red Hot Aids Charitable Trust, an organization primarily dedicated to Aids prevention.
Paul McCartney will be included on the record — he’s come up with his own version of the Coward song “A Room With A View” — but the Beatle won’t perform at the gala. Others rumored to be included on the CD are the beleaguered Black Grape, Bryan Ferry, M People and Suede.
