May 15 [9:45 EST] -- The album is called "Whiplash" but the neck brace sported by James singer Tim Booth at the start of their 6-week North American tour was not a promotional stunt. James played the first date in Vancouver May 1 with Booth in obvious pain from what turned out to be a ruptured disc. They struggled through two more shows but canceled San Francisco and other performances while Booth underwent treatment.
The entire tour has now been scrapped and the band has returned to England. But they will be back. James reports they'll be playing most of the Lollapalooza dates this summer. The band is booked to play the giant Glastonbury Festival in England June 29 this year as well as some other large European festivals. The status of those shows are still to be determined but most will have to be canceled.
In related news, Lollapalooza will be starting a week later than originally planned. The first event will be June 25 at the Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach,
Florida. For complete tour itinerary, see the MTV News Gallery.
