Ja Rule Connects In "Turn It Up," Readies "3:36" LP

"Turn It Up," the much-anticipated hip-hop film starring The Fugees' Pras and rapper Ja Rule, will finally arrive on screens on September 6, almost two years after Pras issued "Ghetto Supastar," the album on which the movie is based.

In the film, Pras plays Diamond, an aspiring hip-hop artist who spends all his time cutting demos in a Brooklyn studio, while Ja Rule portrays Gage, his longtime friend, who will do anything from stealing to dealing to help Diamond get a record deal.

Ja Rule recently talked with MTV News about his role in "Turn It Up" and indicated that it was that bond between Diamond and Gage that first drew him to the part (see "Pras, Ja Rule Report From The Set Of 'Ghetto Superstar'").

"That's one of the things that's special about the character," Ja Rule said, "'cause he has a love for Diamond that's unconditional.

He doesn't care if Diamond does good or bad. He doesn't care. He loves Di. That's his man. He'll rob people, and he'll do whatever it takes to help Diamond through his situation." [RealVideo]

In music-related Ja Rule news, the rapper has set an October 3 release date for his second album, "Rule 3:36," the follow-up to his 1999 platinum debut, "Venni Vetti Vecci."

The first single from "Rule 3:36" is "Between Me And You", featuring guest vocals from Christina Milian. Other artists pitching in for Ja Rule's new album include Case, Lil' Mo, Jayo Felony, Ty Murder, Vita, and Black Child.
