Natalie Imbruglia was the big winner at the 12th Annual Australian Recording Industry Awards, after cashing in on six of her pack-leading nine nominations.
The soap star-turned-singer turned her plethora of nominations (see “Imbruglia Tops Aussie Nominations” ) into six awards including Best Single and Best Debut Single for “Torn;” Best Debut Album and Best Pop Release for “Left Of The Middle,” and “Best Female Artist.”
The Best Album award went to Regurgitator. That band also won Best Alternative Release. Another multiple winner was The Whitlams, who took Best Group, Best Independent Release and Song of the Year. The Superjesus took the prize for top rock release, while Sgt. Slick did the same for dance. Paul Kelly won for Best Male.
Savage Garden was presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award.
