Hootie's Rucker Denies He Instigated Parking Lot Fight

June 25 [14:00 EDT] -- Hootie and Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker says that he was the victim and not the aggressor in a scuffle outside a Charleston, South Carolina convenience store at 2:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Ronald Woltz, 34, told police that he was punched and thrown to the ground by Rucker while trying to break up an impending fight.

Rucker doesn't deny getting physical, but says he wasn't the instigator.

The Hootie camp says that verification of Rucker's story could come courtesy of surveillance footage taken from the security camera inside the Magic Mart convenience store as well as footage shot in the parking lot, where the altercation occurred.

Police have declined to press any charges in the matter, reportedly after viewing the security tape. The Magic Mart has so far refused to release that footage to the press.
