Gov't Mule Plans N.Y. Release Parties, Tour

With their spring tour ready to kick off on Friday, New York's favorite sons of Southern rock, Gov't Mule, will be hosting a pair of record release parties for the band's latest album "Life Before Insanity" on March 7 and 8 at Manhattan's Irving Plaza.

The New York dates are well-timed for the group, as the two-night stand takes place immediately before an annual month-long residency by the Allman Brothers kicks off across town at the Beacon Theater. Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes and Allen Woody are ex-Allmans themselves, and seeing as how the band is known to attract guest musicians to its shows, numerous appearances are anticipated.

Keyboardist Johnny Neel, who has played with Mule drummer Matt Abts in the Dicky Betts Band and with the Allman Brothers Band, is confirmed for the New York gigs, and rumor has it that Ben Harper might show as well.

"Insanity," which hit stores last week, comes on the heels of a four-CD box set, "Live...With a Little Help From Our

Friends." Recorded on New Year's Eve 1998 at Atlanta's Roxy Theatre, the set also includes CD-ROM video footage and interviews with guest musicians.
