In what looks like it could be one the stranger moments in Grammy history, Shawn Colvin's trip to the podium to pick up her award for Song of the Year was interrupted by the Wu-Tang Clan's Ol' Dirty Bastard who stole the mic to praise his group, and his new clothes.
After sneaking to the microphone and kissing presenter Erykah Badu in mid-bumrush, O.D.B. urged the crowd to "Please calm down," and launched into a confusing speech thusly: "I went and bought me an outfit today that cost me a lot of money, because I figured that Wu-Tang was gonna win," O.D.B. said, referring to the Best Rap Album that Wu-Tang was nominated for, but did not win earlier in the evening as the honor went to Puff Daddy.
"I don't know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children," O.D.B. continued. "We teach the children. Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best. I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all, peace."
O.D.B. was then ushered off the stage, and a thoroughly confused Colvin was allowed to give her acceptance speech.
O.D.B.'s very public display comes just one day after the news that he saved a four-year-old child from a burning car (see "Ol' Dirty Bastard Saves Child").
