New York City Police say the rapper, whose given name is Russell Jones, was one of two men they pulled over on a Brooklyn street shortly after 8PM, traveling in a Chevrolet Tahoe with its headlights off. Police say ODB and his companion got out of their vehicle and started shooting at them, and the police shot back. Nobody was wounded, though, and ODB was arrested on the spot. His companion Frederick Cuffie fled the scene, but was caught a few hours later. Jones was charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Cuffie was released uncharged.

In the last six months ODB has also been charged with shoplifting in Virginia (see "Ol' Dirty Accused

Of Shoplifting"), clashing with nightclub security guards, (see "Ol' Dirty Bastard Out On Bail After Hollywood Club Arrest"), and threatening to kill an ex-girlfriend in California. (see "Ol' Dirty Bastard Arrested On Threat Charges Again").
