O.D.B. Teams Up With Robert Shapiro; One Case Dismissed

Ol' Dirty Bastard is getting a little help from superstar attorney Robert Shapiro in a case that charges the convicted felon with unlawful possession of body armor, or in layman's terms, wearing a bulletproof vest.

O. J. Simpson's former lawyer took over the case (see "Ol' Dirty Bastard Arrested For Wearing Bulletproof Vest") from the rapper's previous attorney, Kevin Barnes, on Monday in a Los Angeles courtroom during a preliminary hearing. The case has been continued until May 18.

O.D.B. is one of the first individuals to be arrested under this new California law. While it is considered legal for law-abiding citizens to wear body armor, anyone with at least one previous violent felony conviction is prohibited by law from wearing the protective gear.

The legally intriguing rapper also had been charged with making terrorist threats against his ex-girlfriend (see "Ol' Dirty Bastard Arrested

On Threat Charges Again"), but the case was dismissed from the Compton Superior Court on Monday due to lack of evidence.

O.D.B. is still involved in a second terrorist threat case which alleges he threatened members of the security staff at the House of Blues in West Hollywood (see "Ol' Dirty Bastard Out On Bail After Hollywood Club Arrest"). The case was heard on Tuesday in the Santa Monica Superior Court, but it has been continued until May 19.
