Lauryn Hill Gets Emotional At "Essence" Awards

Lauryn Hill was among the honorees at this year's recent "Essence" Awards, which annually salute African-American accomplishments.

Jada Pinkett Smith and Jamie Foxx were the hosts of the show, which will air on June 2. After accepting her award from singer Patti Labelle, Hill was clearly touched.

"I wanna let young people know that it is not a burden to love [God] and to represent Him," Hill said tearfully, "and to be who you are, as fly and as hot and as whatever, and to still love God and to serve Him. It is not a contradiction. It's not a contradiction." [RealVideo]

The singer just completed a video for "Everything Is Everything" (the next single off her kudos-laden solo debut "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill") and she's planning to mount a U.S. tour sometime this summer.
