Wyclef Jean And Bono To Perform Benefit Single At NYC Club Show

The Fugees' Wyclef Jean and U2's Bono will perform their joint benefit single, "New Day," during a special dinner concert being held on September 8 at the Copacabana in New York City.

Dubbed a "Caribbean Soiree: An Evening of Dinner, Dance and Performances," the event is being co-sponsored by NetAid and the Wyclef Jean Foundation, and will also feature appearances from funk elder George Clinton, singer Joan Osborne, and sundry others in Wyclef's extended Refugee All-Stars family.

Wyclef and Bono, who cut "New Day" during studio sessions back in July (see [article id="1429187"]"Wyclef Records Charity Single With Bono, Preps For Woodstock"[/article]), will also use the joint club appearance to unveil a video for "New Day," while the single version of the track is slated for release on September 14.

If you can't afford the $1,000 a plate ticket to the "Caribbean Soiree," don't worry, the concert will be broadcast for free over the internet via

Wyclef's Copacabana performance will also be taped by VH1 for broadcast as an episode of "VH1 Storytellers," although a definite air date has yet to be determined.

Proceeds from the single and charity dinner will be split between Net Aid, an organization working to curb extreme poverty in underdeveloped countries, and the Wyclef Jean Foundation, which provides musical instruments and instruction to needy children.

Wyclef and Bono are also scheduled to participate in the NetAid concerts, being held at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, Wembley Stadium in London, and the Palais des Nations in Geneva, on October 9.
