Freestylers Keep Old-School Vibe Alive Onstage

British break-beat purveyors the Freestylers are currently dropping a bomb on the buzz bin with their new single, "Here We Go," the video for which features the band dodging cars in a post-apocalyptic roller derby.

With a lineup that includes a pair of DJs, several live musicians, multiple MCs, and a squad of old-school breakdancers, the Freestylers drew raves for their over-the-top stage production while opening a few U.S. dates for the Lo Fidelity Allstars last month.

A few days before the band delivered a raucous set at this year's KROQ Weenie Roast in L.A., MTV News caught up with the band and talked about the importance of its live shows for both the group's members and its fans.

"To actually see someone go up on stage with a guitar and a drumkit and a vocalist, that's what people understand, from the age of two to the age of 92," said the band's Navigator. "People understand that and know

that. Record companies have been built on that, you know. So I think that's really the essence of it all. You just go right back to the old. You're bringing it into the new, but you're taking it from the old." [RealVideo]

The Freestylers will be returning to the States in late July to mount a headlining tour.
