Aretha Holds Court At Video Shoot

November 19 [18:15 EDT] -- Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, summoned some of the hottest names in R&B into her court for the filming of the video for the title track off her upcoming album "A Rose Is Still A Rose."

Joining Franklin were Faith Evans, Changing Faces, and Amel from Groove Theory, and Lauryn Hill, who also directed the video. Hill had previously directed rapper Common's video "Retrospect For Life."

Faith Evans told MTV News, "I was honored to be asked to be a part of this, so I would never have said no." Evans also said she has plenty of r-e-s-p-e-c-t for Ms. Franklin. "A lot of the technology and the artsy things that are gong on these days -- she was around when there was none of that, when there was just a microphone and a pianist in the studio, without the technology, so I respect her and I respect her work, and the fact that she's making records now." The single will be released next month, and the album is scheduled early next year.
