Everlast Discusses Tapping Into Live Vibe

Former House of Pain leader Erik Schrody, more commonly known as Everlast, managed to accomplish the near impossible in 1998 by successfully crossing over from hip-hopper to alternative rocker — all while maintaining his street cred.

Everlast spent much of last year on the road, both supporting his breakthrough single, “What It’s Like,” as well as learning how to draw off a different stage vibe than he did while in House of Pain.

“Music is like this energy,” Everlast commented, “and when you get five guys or however many guys are in the band, the object is [for] all those guys to tap into the same energy wavelength, so to speak. And when you do, that’s when the really incredible music happens. And when you don’t, that’s when it’s kinda iffy.” [28.8 RealAudio]
