July 29 [7:55 EDT] -- Missy Elliott's single "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" and corresponding video [900k QuickTime] may seem different from your standard hip-hop, and that's sort of the point.
"The radio is stuck right now," Elliott recently told MTV News. "Everything sounds the same. As far as video-wise, everything looks the same. So we feel like we're coming in and we're gonna change the whole thing." [900k QuickTime]
That plan seems to be working for Elliot, who is currently sitting at number three on the "Billboard" album chart with her solo debut, "Supa Dupa Fly." Of course, much of the album's success can be attributed to the quirky bounce of "The Rain."
"The melodies are odd, and we kind of make it alternative at the same time. So it's got a futuristic feel, and an alternative feel to it," [1MB

That futuristic feel also haunts the video for the track, which features Elliot clad in what looks like an inflated garbage bag and a pair of elaborate gold sunglasses. While an outfit like this makes for an eye-catching video, it's not practical for everyday wear.
"I was like too big to fit into the car, so I had to walk down the street with that on and the glasses," Elliott said. "Imagine if you were out walking somewhere and you saw somebody walking down the street (dressed like that), you'd think they were bananas." [1MB QuickTime]
