Former Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascis has secured a new record deal with Ultimatum Records, and the label plans to issue his new album, titled "More Light" and credited to J. Mascis & The Fog, in late October.
For "More Light," Mascis' first effort since his 1996 solo album, "Martin + Me," and Dinosaur Jr.'s final release, 1997's "Hand It Over," the singer-guitarist has enlisted the aid of Guided By Voices leader Robert Pollard and ex-My Bloody Valentine guitarist Kevin Shields.
Shields, who has been touring and recording with Primal Scream recently (see "Primal Scream Unveils Live Agenda, Talks Guitar Army"), engineered "More Light" and plays on several tracks: "All The Girls," "Does The Kiss Fit," and "Where'd You Go," the first single from the album. GBV's Pollard also guests on three songs: "All The Girls," "I'm Not Fine," and "Same Day."
"Where'd You Go" will be sent out to college radio outlets in mid-September,
and an accompanying video for the track is tentatively set to be shot in early August.
Mascis plans to head out on the road in support of "More Light" in October and November, with another headlining stint planned for January and February of 2001.
