Def Squad's Murray Denied Reduced Jail Sentence

Def Squad's Keith Murray recently suffered a loss in his legal battle to keep out of jail for hitting a fan.

On Wednesday, Judge James Graham denied the motion to reduce the rapper's sentence of five years in jail, suspended after three, and three years probation for second degree assault. The original verdict, which has since been appealed, was rendered in Connecticut's New Britain Superior Court back in January of 1997. It was handed down after Murray was found guilty of hitting a teenage fan, David Hughes, over the head with a metal bar stool during a brawl in 1995.

On Wednesday, the rapper's lawyer filed for certification from the Supreme Court after the sentence was upheld, and Murray and his lawyer are currently awaiting their decision. The Supreme Court's ruling is expected to be handed down within the next several weeks.
