Feb. 28 [12:00 EST] — According to a Reuters news report, officials have said that 35 people were injured at a Deep Purple concert in Chile when a tower collapsed on the audience.
There were reportedly no fatalities in the incident, which occurred at a show at Santiago’s Santa Laura Stadium last Thursday.
The report states that the tower, which supported speakers for the show, fell under the added weight of fans who had climbed the rigging hoping for a better view. Police told Reuters that 20 people were trapped under the wreckage, but were soon pulled out, and the concert continued.
Some fans were reportedly seriously injured with broken bones and concussions in the accident, which occurred after Deep Purple had played only three songs.
