Dave Matthews Signs On For "Red Fern" Film

Having conquered the world of stadium rock, Dave Matthews has signed on to star in his first movie role, a remake of the 1974 film of the well-known Wilson Rawls children's book "Where The Red Fern Grows."

The singer-guitarist will play the father of a young boy in Depression-era Oklahoma who dreams of owning two hunting dogs. The movie, which begins shooting this month, co-stars Dabney Coleman and Ned Beatty.

For fans who prefer to hear Matthews sing as opposed to seeing him making his acting debut, sit tight: the Dave Matthews Band plans to hit the studio early next year to record the follow-up to last year's "Before These Crowded Streets."
