Da Brat Cast In Carey Film, Indicted For Assault

Rapper Da Brat will make her cinematic debut in the upcoming Mariah Carey film, "All That Glitters," a project scheduled to start shooting on July 24 in Toronto with director Vondie Curtis-Hall.

According to "The Hollywood Reporter," Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, has been cast in the role of "Louise," a friend of Carey's character, the lead role in the film.

"All That Glitters" is a rags-to-riches story loosely modeled on Carey's rise to the top of the pop scene. In the movie, a struggling young singer raised in several foster homes gets her big break after a DJ hears one of her demos (see [article id="1426913"]"Delayed Mariah Carey Film To Head Into Production"[/article]).

Brat's role in the film will reteam her with Carey, whom she opened for during the singer's North American tour in late March and early April (see [article id="1426906"]"Mariah Taps Da Brat For Tour"[/article]).

news, the rapper may have to take a few days off from the "Glitter" set next month to attend a plea and arraignment hearing at a Fulton County Superior Court.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta District Attorney's office told MTV News that a grand jury formally indicted Harris on June 16 on two felony counts of aggravated assault for her part in a barroom brawl back in March (see [article id="1427818"]"Da Brat Arrested For Battery In Club Incident"[/article]).

If convicted, Da Brat faces from one to 20 years in prison on each of the felony assault charges. Harris is next scheduled to be in court in mid-August, although the judge in the case has yet to set a date for the hearing.
