July 28 [12:00 EDT] -- Sheryl Crow hooked up with designer Tommy Hilfiger in New York City on Thursday to announce he will be sponsoring the singer's summer tour.
Hilfiger's involvement in the tour also means (not too surprisingly) that he will design stage outfits for Crow.
Hilfiger is apparently looking to broaden his market beyond the urban community that's made his sportswear such a hit.
Some of the clothes he's designed for Crow will be available to the public come November, when Hilfiger's flagship store opens in Beverly Hills.
More importantly, Crow and Hilfiger are hoping to battle breast cancer, which claimed the life of Crow's grandmother.
"When Tommy approached me about this, it was interesting because not only is he interested in giving back to the community, but he's also been involved in the fight against breast cancer for a long time, as have I," [1MB QuickTime] Crow explained.
has designed a special commemorative T-shirt to be sold at various shows on Crow's tour to benefit breast cancer research. Hilfiger is also donating a portion of sales in his retail and outlet stores over the Columbus Day weekend to the same cause.
Sheryl Crow hooks up with the Lilith Fair tour on August 12 at the Star Lake Amphitheater in Burgettstown, PA. She will then launch her own tour August 15 at New York's Jones Beach.
