August 8 [7:55 EDT] -- Sting apparently made a major new friend when he agreed to license a sample from the old Police hit "Every Breath You Take" to Puffy Combs as the basis for Puffy's chart-topping tribute to the late Biggie Smalls.
Now that the first Sting/Puffy union is a mainstay at number one on the singles chart, the two have set their sights on the Police nugget "Walking on the Moon."
"I'm doing a recreation of 'Walking.' Is that the name of the song? 'Walking on the Moon,'" Puff Daddy told MTV News. "I'm gonna put a sample on his record. Well, I may not use a sample, but I'm just gonna do an ill hip-hop beat. It's gonna be ill. [1.1MB QuickTime] We're gonna experiment with it. I'm happy that, you know, he respected me as somebody that's a producer."
That version of "Walking on the Moon" may turn up on a future greatest-hits set from the Police, but of course, we'll keep you
