Puffy Takes R.E.M. To The Prom In New Video

November 4 [7:55 EDT] -- While you won't hear R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry pounding out any of the band's songs anymore, you will soon be able to hear Puffy Combs covering R.E.M. [600k QuickTime] in the near future.

The rap kingpin turns in a tongue-in-cheek version of the band's "Everybody Hurts" at the beginning of his next video, the Spike Jonze-directed clip for his rock remix of "It's All About The Benjamins." [700k QuickTime]

In the video, which Puffy, L'il Kim and others shot in Los Angeles recently, the rapper plays the tuxedo-clad frontman of a prom band that belts out the R.E.M. tune before transforming into Puffy and crew and wowing the prom crowd with "It's All About The Benjamins."

If the video doesn't sound like your usual Puffy fare, that's the idea.

"This is just something different or off the wall," Puffy

told MTV News of the video. "We're known for the glitzy, glamorous type of videos, and we're very versatile as artists." [600k QuickTime]

As we first reported in September, the rock remix of that track features head Foo Fighter Dave Grohl on guitar, and ex-Replacement Tommy Stinson on bass.

Puffy's dalliances into rock don't end with that remix, or his tip of the cap to R.E.M.; the hip-hop producer's remix of the 1979 Police hit "Roxanne" will arrive on a Police greatest hits compilation due November 25.
