November 21 [8:35 EDT] -- Snoop Doggy Dogg recently joined Warren G, Onyx, and Reverend Run of Run DMC in a Los Angeles video shoot for "Santa Baby," [400k QuickTime] a rap version of the Eartha Kitt classic. The track, which also features Puff Daddy, Mase, Salt-n-Pepa and Keith Murray, appears on the recently released all star album "A Very Special Christmas III," which benefits the Special Olympics.
"I just wanted to meet Santa Claus and do all the stuff kids do on Christmas day, you know what I'm saying? We just in it for the fun, that's all," [400k QuickTime] Snoop told us about the project.
I mean a lot of people get twisted into thinking we in for the violence or the sex or the money, but we in for the fun, you know what I'm saying? Me and Warren G started doing this from the ground up, from the heart, and any time when we can give something back where we don't make no money
off of it but we make a lot of new fans and make people happy, that's what we're gonna do, you know what I'm saying, that's what we're in this game for."
Getting so many hip hop stars together for a charity event was no picnic, though, as Reverend Run told us.
"It's been a long summer of pulling together all these artists," the old school rapper told MTV News. "When the project was put in my hand they said 'go get the biggest artist you could,' so most of the summer I was chasing around Puffy and Mase and Snoop and Salt-n-Pepa, and all these big artists, and they would look up, and there's the Reverend saying 'I need you to be on this record for me, I have no money, it's a charity record,' and by the end of the summer I had pulled off the great feat of getting Puffy, Mase, Salt-n-Pepa, Snoop Dogg, Onyx and Keith Murray."
Puffy, Mase, and the other artists on "Santa Baby" will also be in the final video.
In other Onyx news, the rapper has collaborated with
the Wu-Tang Clan on a track called "The Worst" for the rap road movie "I-95," which will be out in January. Redman and Erick Sermon will also be on the sountrack.
