Puff Daddy, Spice Girls, Wallflowers Pick Up AMA Nominations

December 12 [10:00 EDT] — Capping off a banner professional year, Puff Daddy picked up five American Music Award nominations on Thursday, more than anyone else.

Puffy will find himself up for best pop/rock male artist, best soul/R&B male artist, best rap/hip-hop artist, best soul/R&B album, and best soul/R&B new artist.

The Spice Girls and the Wallflowers also racked up multiple nominations as each earned three nods apiece. Ironically, the two completely dissimilar acts landed those nominations in the same categories as the Girls and the Wallflowers will go head-to-head for best pop/rock band, duo or group (along with U2), best pop/rock new artist (against matchbox 20), and best pop/rock album (with matchbox 20 and Jewel).

Erykah Badu, Beck, Dru Hill, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Sublime, Bush, Wu-Tang Clan, Mariah Carey, Babyface, Boyz II Men, En Vogue, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony are also among this year’s nominees.

It was also announced on Thursday
that the Spice Girls, Puff Daddy, and Hanson would be among the performers when Drew Carey hosts the AMAs on January 26.
