Sheryl Crow To Play Central Park With Eric Clapton, Others

It looks as if the much-rumored free “Sheryl Crow and Friends” concert set for New York City’s Central Park is a go, although exactly who those friends will be remains unclear.

Eric Clapton has already signed on for the September 14 concert slated for the park’s East Meadow, as the concert is actually being billed as “Sheryl Crow and friends, including Eric Clapton,” according to a spokesperson for the event’s sponsor, American Express.

But unlike such free Central Park shows as Garth Brooks’ 1997 countrified extravaganza, which was open to whomever showed up, only 25,000 tickets to the Sheryl Crow concert will be made available by American Express, and only ticket-holders will be allowed entrance into the East Meadow.

American Express will distribute tickets to the concert after Labor Day (September 6) in all of NYC’s five boroughs via a promotional instant game, with winners receiving two tickets to the show. Additional performers will also be formally announced
after Labor Day.

If you don’t score free tickets to the “Sheryl Crow and Friends” concert, don’t fret. Current plans call for the special one-off show to be televised live on the Fox Network and simulcast across both the Internet and various radio affiliates.
