Grammy Award winners Paul Simon and Garth Brooks (or is that Chris Gaines?) have signed on as musical guests for "Sports Illustrated's 20th Century Sports Awards," being held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 2.Sports legends such as Muhammad Ali, Magic Johnson, and Wayne Gretsky will be on hand for the event, which will honor "Athletes of the Century" in the categories of: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Individual Sports (Men), Individual Sports (Women), and U.S. Olympians. As part of the event, "Sports Illustrated" will also name the Ten Greatest Sports Moments Of The Century, a singular Sportsman of the Century, and seven other Athletes Who Changed The Game. Bryant Gumbel will host the two-hour program, which will be broadcast live on CBS, and proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction of sports memorabilia being held at Madison Square Garden prior to the show will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of America. Garth Brooks, his pop doppelganger LP, "In The Life Of Chris Gaines," is holding strong in the Top 20 of the "Billboard" album chart after debuting at number two last month. Brooks will return to more familiar surroundings with the release of his second seasonal album, "The Colors of Christmas," on November 23.Simon is currently taking a break after his extensive summer tour with Bob Dylan, and Columbia Records plans to issue a 20-track "Best Of Simon & Garfunkel" anthology on November 16.
