Mase, Kelly Price And Boyz II Men Ink Management Deal With Magic Johnson

Magic Johnson is slashing his way through the music business with the same dexterity he displayed as an NBA great, and recently announced the formation of a new management company.

Johnson has already signed on to represent Boyz II Men, Kelly Price and Mase, and when MTV's Chris Connelly caught-up with Magic and Mase at the Soul Train Music Awards in Los Angeles last week, the two talked about their new business relationship.

"Ever think to yourself, 'Magic Johnson is managing me,'" Connelly asked Mase, "it's exciting, isn't it?"

"Yeah, it's kind of exciting," Mase said, "he still can't guard me though."

"[He's still trying] to take me one-on-one, you know," Johnson said, "but you know, we have a good time.

We play ball, we work out, we talk about different things. What Mase needed in his life was a man who could understand his goals, his dreams, and also what he's going through as an artist, and I know all of those things." [28.8 RealVideo]

In addition to the management venture, the former L.A. Lakers star has also launched his Magic Johnson Music label, which has signed its firs act, an R&B outfit named Avant.

As for Mase, the rapper will release his sophomore album, entitled "Double Up," on June 1 -- and the record will be preceded by "Get Ready" a new single that features a guest spot from Blackstreet.
