September 8 [7:55 EDT] -- David Bowie opened his "Earthling" tour in Vancouver, Canada, Saturday night to a sold-out crowd of 5,000 at the outdoor Plaza of Nations, and he didn't disappoint.
He played to a surprisingly young audience with material covering all eras of his career. Bowie opened the show with "Quicksand" and closed his final encore with what may well be the tour's highlight, the rarely rendered "All The Young Dudes."
Another high point included backup singer Gayle Anne Dorsey taking the lead on Laurie Anderson's "O Superman." Bowie's tour hosts different DJ openers for each city. The Vancouver event featured DJ Luke.
In interviews conducted prior to the show, Bowie announced a pending collaboration with Trent Reznor and unconfirmed liaisons with Ice Cube and Goldie. A rep from Virgin Records confirms Reznor remixes of Bowie's new single, "I'm Afraid of Americans," will soon be on the market in the near future. Watch for what will likely become a
collectors' cover with a so-far secretive hand-penned drawing by Bowie himself.
