August 8 [12:00 EDT] -- Mariah Carey's next album may bring a whole new version of the singer to the record racks of the world.
Carey's album, "Butterfly" (due out next month), seems to be shaping up as the singer's big hip-hop move.
As previously noted, Puffy Combs produced the album's first single, "Honey," (see "Puffy Excited About Work With Mariah") and Missy Elliot and Timbaland collaborated with Carey on a track called "Baby Doll." (see "After Teaming With Mariah, Missy Elliot Makes It On Her Own")
Also on board for guest shots, it turns out, are the R&B vocal group Dru Hill, and the rather un-Mariah-like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
While Carey's taste in covers has in the past run to older fare, this time out she's reportedly whipped up a rendition of a Prince song, "Beautiful Ones."
The "Butterfly" album will be released on September 16.
