Never one to shy away from a chance to expand his musical horizons, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello is once again teaming with some unlikely partners on a new project.
Morello is currently working with Henry Rollins, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and members of Bone Thugz-N-Harmony on an update of the Bone Thugz cover of Edwin Starr's classic "War." The track will pop up on the soundtrack of the upcoming Tommy Lee Jones/Phil Hartman action film "Small Soldiers."
"It was awesome. The Bone Thugz track is huge," Morello told MTV News of the song. "It's a cover of the song 'War,' and it was just a huge track. Flea had done some pretty awesome bass, and Rollins does his spoken word business in it. It's very excellent, and I just basically play through that, [800k Quicktime] did some rhythm guitar stuff, did some riffs, and then just played through it, went nuts across it twice and
was outta there in a few hours. It was super fun."
As we previously reported (see "Foo Fighters Describe Joining Puffy, Page, Rage, Jamiroquai For 'Godzilla'"), another Morello collaboration, this one with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Puff Daddy on the Zep track "Kashmir," will turn up on the soundtrack to "Godzilla."
"Small Soldiers" opens in July, while "Godzilla" opens on May 20.
