The Spice Girls, Celine Dion, Jon Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, and Vanessa Williams will be among the performers taking the stage at a benefit concert being staged by opera star Luciano Pavarotti to aid children affected by the civil war in Liberia.
Pavarotti was joined by Wonder and director Spike Lee on Thursday in New York to announce plans for the concert, which is slated for June 9 in Modena, Italy (Pavarotti’s hometown).
The show, which will also feature performances by Natalie Cole, Trisha Yearwood, Eros Ramazotti, and others, will then spawn an album and concert video, both of which will benefit the cause. The album will be produced by Phil Ramone (who will also handle musical production duties for the concert), while the video will be directed by Spike Lee.
The concert and its many related off-shoots will raise funds to build the Pavarotti & Friends Liberian Children’s Village, which aims to offer medical, educational, and residential aid to children affected
by Liberia’s civil war.
