D'Angelo, Mary J. Blige, Sisqo, and Run-DMC are just a few of the folks who have signed on for "Essence" magazine's annual summer music festival.
The Essence Music Festival 2000 is slated for July 1-3 in New Orleans and will include main stage appearances by the aforementioned artists as well as Maxwell, Montell Jordan, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Angie Stone, and more to be announced. Hosts for the main stage include John Henton, Rene Hicks, and A.J. Jamal.
An eclectic lineup has also been set for the second stage, Superlounges. Scheduled acts include Mint Condition, Amel Larrieux, Tyrese, Eric Benét, Angela Bofill, Cuba Gooding & The Main Ingredient, Dianne Reeves, and Little Milton.
Many more mainstage and Superlounge performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
The annual event will also offer its free daily empowerment seminars presented by African-American scholars, authors, artists, and business,
political, religious, and social leaders. Some of the panel participants include Billy Blanks, Dr. Bertice Berry, Mother Love, Tavis Smiley, Iyanla Vanzant, and Malik Yoba.
Afrocentric arts and crafts, clothing, books, unique gift items, festival souvenirs, and down-home New Orleans cuisine will be available at the Essence Marketplace on the festival grounds.
