In related news, Biggie's label Bad Boy Records held a press conference on Wednesday morning to announce the release of a double-sided single benefiting the children of the fallen rapper.
The two songs ("We'll Always Love Big Poppa" by new Bad Boy artists the Lox, and "I'll Be Missing You" ["I'll Be Missing You" Video, 1MB QuickTime] by Puff Daddy, Biggie's widow Faith Evans, and 112) premiered on over 200 radio stations across the country simultaneously at noon on Wednesday, followed by a moment of silence. MTV also joined in the simulcast by premiering the "I'll Be Missing You" video at noon as well.
"The reason we did two songs, we felt
that everybody wanted to be involved," Puffy said during Wednesday's press conference. "The Lox started out with the song first. The Lox made the song first, and they were a catalyst for us making the second song. And we shot two videos, because Biggie deserved to get that type of tribute."
The video for "I'll Be Missing You," almost had a catastrophe of it's own, as Puffy took a very real motorcycle fall during shooting. After shaking himself off, he said he thought of his late friend.
"When I fell off the bike, I heard him laughing real, real loud," Puffy said. "He had this thing, where if you did something stupid, he used to look at you and point and go 'Baaa!' right in your face, and so when I was on the ground, I just felt him doing that, right in my face."
The single will be in stores on May 27.
