Beck Brings The New Noise At Benefit Show

In what might be Beck's only performance this year to support the November 3 release of his "Mutations" album, Beck played this past Saturday at the second annual Silicon Planet show benefiting AIDS research in San Jose, California.

Beck took the opportunity to preview one track from the record, the Bossanova flavored "Tropicalia," while also slipping in some new material such as "Jockin' My Mercedes" and "Let the Doctor Rock You."

His band for the San Jose performance included new guitarist Tony Hoffer, ex-Jellyfish keyboardist Roger Manning and drummer Joey Waronker, who has resumed working with Beck after a brief stint with R.E.M.

After releasing the more experimental "Mutations," Beck is tentatively planning to issue a more straightforward album next summer.
