Beastie Boys, R.E.M., Porno For Pyros To Play Tibetan Freedom Fest

April 14 [7:55 EST] -- 1996 Tibetan Freedom Concert veterans Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Björk, and the Beastie Boys will join newcomers Porno For Pyros, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe and Mike Mills, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at this year's East Coast incarnation of the two-day concert.

Stipe and Mills will turn in a performance as a duo, and Porno For Pyros will offer an acoustic set. Rancid, Biz Markie, A Tribe Called Quest, Pattie Smith, De La Soul, and Ben Harper will also be on hand for the second set of Tibetan Freedom Concerts, which was announced last week.

The event is modeled on the two shows that drew 50,000 people to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park last summer.

This year's Tibet Concerts will take place on June 7 and 8 at Randall's Island in New York City.

Of course, the Beastie Boys will be back on the bill, and bassist Adam Yauch (a Buddhist himself) continues to be the motivating force behind the event.
