Barenaked Ladies On Heralding Marilyn Manson's VMA Arrival

Canada's Barenaked Ladies were enjoying a little spirited American revelry last night at the Video Music Awards, where they were on-hand to perform their hit single "One Week," in addition to a few bars from each of the songs nominated for Video of the Year.

When MTV caught up with the Ladies backstage at the show, we asked them about their pre-show performance -- which found the band hammering out their songs while one of the evening's featured celebrities made his grand entrance.

"People were walking in and the celebrities were coming down the red carpet," said Steven Page, "and we sat there on stage and did 'One Week' and did a medley of the top 5 nominees for Best Video."

"Actually, specifically we played while Marilyn Manson walked in," added Ed Robertson.

"And everybody [asked us], 'Did you see Rose McGowan's outfit?' and I didn't because I was busy and I was playing. I looked away and I saw Marilyn Manson, but I was too busy looking to see if he had his pubis exposed, that I didn't look to see if his girlfriend had hers.

With the group's most recent album, "Stunt," remaining firmly entrenched in the Top 20 Album chart, the Barenaked Ladies plan to launch a U.S. tour in support of the new record on October 1 in Pittsburgh.

Catch all the sizzlin', star-packed VMA action direct from Miami on August 28. MTV News' preshow kicks things off at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT, followed by big show at 8 p.m.
