Grammy darling Lauryn Hill had celebrities coming out of the woodwork to see her perform at three sold out shows over the weekend in Los Angeles at the Universal Amphitheater.
On Friday, U2 frontman Bono, actress Salma Hayek, and Shannen Doherty were in attendance, while Pamela Anderson, Magic Johnson, Tori Spelling, Christina Applegate and the newly engaged couple Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, took in Saturday night’s show. Val Kilmer and Babyface saw Sunday’s concert. At least two artists made it a multiple night affair as singer Janet Jackson went out for both Friday and Saturday’s concerts (with noticeably heavy security in tow), while Queen Latifah attended both Saturday and Sunday’s concerts.
Hill performed an energetically flawless set for under just two hours with a 10 piece band, three back-up singers, a rapper, and two DJs. The R&B/hip-hop diva performed both Fugees material as well as her solo stuff from "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill." She also did a few covers
while locked in a battle of the DJs versus live musicians. She impressively performed material from everyone from the Jackson 5, to Stevie Wonder, to rapper Jay-Z.
Another rapper, Busta Rhymes, was in the house on the second night of the show. He got to take the stage briefly to hug Hill. Also spotted on Saturday night were Edward Norton and Drew Barrymore, who were backstage holding hands though they said that they went to the concert as friends.
