Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos Announce Dates For Joint Tour; Amos Preps New Double Album

Two of the most respected female singer-songwriters in alternative music today will hit the road together this summer, as Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos have announced plans for a joint tour slated to kick off on August 18 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In an interesting twist, the Morissette-Amos outing, dubbed the "5 1/2 Weeks Tour," will be sponsored in part by digital music distributor MP3.com. Last year, both artists fought to keep songs from Morissette's "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" and Amos' "From the Choirgirl Hotel" from being posted on the web (see "Morissette's 'Uninvited" Websites Shut Down..." and "Atlantic Records Fights To Keep New Tori Amos Song Under Wraps"). The "5 1/2 Weeks Tour" is also being sponsored by music retailer Best Buy.

Amos will use the outing to help whet audiences' appetites for her new double album, which Atlantic Records plans to release in

the fall. The two-disc set will feature one disc of live material recorded on Amos' 1998 tour, her first with a true backing band, and another disc of all new songs recorded in the studio.
