Tatyana Ali Talks About Hearing A Voice From The Past On Her New Record

Just call Tatyana Ali a classic over achiever.

Ali portrayed Will Smith's little cousin, "Ashley," on TV's "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," and now at age 19, the actress-turned-singer has just started her freshman year at the prestigious Harvard University.

Ali's sweetly-sung debut album, "Kiss the Sky," has already spawned two radio hits, "Daydreamin'" and "Boy You Knock Me Out," and the latter song not only revives the mellow grooves of an old Bobby Caldwell tune, but also features a rap break from Smith himself.

During a recent visit to Harvard, MTV's Serena Altschul talked with Ali about how she felt when she first heard Smith's sentimental rap laid into the song's mix.

[article id="1438247"]"I remember I was in New York,"[/article] Ali said, [article id="1438247"]"and I was in the car, and I started crying like a stupid baby, yes."[/article]

[article id="1438247"]"You didn't get to hear it until

it was finally done, right?"[/article] Serena asked.

[article id="1438247"]"Not until it was done,"[/article] Ali said, [article id="1438247"]"I mean, it wouldn't seem that great to anybody else, but for me, he's almost known me for 10 years, almost 10 years, and he was saying things in there about me. Like about me, but not to me. [They were] things that I shouldn't hear, things that he would say to somebody [about me], but never directly to my face." [28.8 RealVideo][/article]
